Active duty service member stationed in S korea doesnt know how to purchase plane tickets overseas to USA?

I would like to go home in April (for 21 days) it is Dec. right now.
If I’m trying to buy a plane ticket OUT of korea TO the states, how/where would I do that? How do I find airlines going overseas from another country going to the states? How do I get a military discount on an overseas flight out of country? It’s not as easy as just going to Northwest online or orbitz (where they require your purchased ticket to be in state). I’m really missing home. I would like to find tickets soon.

How does flying from overseas to instate ( Oregon or SD) even work? Do I buy a ticket from korea to US then state to state or can I buy and overseas ticket with a connecting flight?
I hope this makes sense. Thankyou to anyone who can offer advice or help in anyway.

Qantas Group is signaling a reshaping of its domestic and international strategy with the bringing forward of eight of its 50 787s on order to mid-2012, according to the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation.

“Qantas the mainline carrier is under attack on several fronts on domestic routes” and is likely to lose some of its 65% share of the Australian market as the decade unfolds, CAPA said. it suggested that the 787 announcement (ATW Daily News, July 15) implies a renewed focus by QF and its LCC Jetstar on domestic operations. it is aiming to protect its position in both the leisure and premium markets with the return of A330s from Jetstar to Qantas as the 787s are delivered, the organization said.

QF is under attack from Tiger Airways, which plans to add substantial capacity in the next two years, and Virgin Blue, which plans an assault on Australia’s domestic business market. CAPA sees the possibility of Blue deploying V Australia 777-300ERs on domestic routes to snare business traffic. Its 777s “are a disaster waiting to happen for Qantas in the domestic arena,” it said.

Here’s news that’s really no surprise: a new poll has found that support for the health care reform law has been gradually rising. The GOP hysteria proved unfounded, as voters now know.

Opposition to the landmark health care overhaul declined over the past month, to 35 percent from 41 percent, according to the latest results of a tracking poll, reported Thursday.

Fifty percent of the public held a favorable view of the law, up slightly from 48 percent a month ago, while 14 percent expressed no opinion about the measure, according to the poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The approval level was the highest for the legislation since it was enacted in March, after a divisive year-long debate. In April, the poll found 46 percent in favor and 40 percent opposed.

(The chart shows an average of several polls; the Kaiser poll reports support at 50 percent.)

A couple of things help explain the rising support. One is that the debate over health reform was ugly, polarized and protracted. when it lingered – sourly — in the news, the ugliness helped sour people on the very idea of health care reform. once the debate ended, so did some of the hostility to the proposal.
The second thing is that Republicans over-reached in their exaggerations and hysteria about the problems the new law would cause: Death panels! Rationing! Now that people see the world hasn’t ended, they’ve relaxed a bit.

If Obama and the rest of the Democrats were better at politics and messaging, they’d remind voters that health care reform was critical not only for today’s uninsured but also for the future economy. Work-based health insurance is fading away as more and more workers are hired for short term contracts. The new health care law provides flexibility for a new economy.

As the UKs Farnborough International Airshow, which begins tomorrow, puts the spotlight back on Gulf airlines and their anticipated order announcements, the size and scale of their rapid growth and global ambitions has become apparent.

Emirates Airline is now the largest in the world by international seating capacity, according to the latest annual report by the International Air Transport Association.

The Dubai-based carrier jumped four places to number one in international scheduled passenger kilometres (SPKs) last year. SPKs are a key metric in the industry, representing the number of seats multiplied by distance flown .

Emirates notched up 118.28 billion SPKs last year, pipping Lufthansas 118.26bn.

Emiratess ascent is remarkable given its standing a decade ago. The airline was 24th among international airlines in 2000. Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways, which have similar business models, are not far behind. The two are the 19th and 24th-largest international airlines by international capacity, respectively.

With small populations in their home countries, these carriers have succeeded largely due to new long-range aircraft and pro-growth policies supporting airport development.

Since Emirates added twin-engine 777s to its fleet in 1996, aircraft technology has played an important role in the success of these airlines. They have flourished as Boeing and Airbus introduced aircraft able to fly a dozen hours or more through drastically improved fuel efficiency compared with older models.

Emirates is the worlds largest operator of the 777 with 78 of the planes that serve as the backbone of its fleet. The 777 outperforms the older Boeing 747 flown by rivals such as Qantas and British Airways on routes between the UK and Asia, says Tim Clark, the president of Emirates.

They have 303 seats, while on our 777-300ER we have 354 seats, so we can carry about 50 more seats and the aircraft burns up to 30 per cent less fuel and, actually, the payload is better on certain routes, he says.

Such aircraft have played a large part in earning Gulf airlines the reputation of being able to get anywhere in the world with just one stop. There are now well over 100 destinations on six continents that are connected to either Dubai, Doha in Qatar or Abu Dhabi, including Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Johannesburg and Beijing. with their hubs located at the centre of the Asia-to-Europe flight path, Gulf airlines have been able to link up the major metropolitan centres of the world with just one transfer stop via their home airports.

On flights from Houston to Chennai, Qatar Airways offers an eight-hour advantage in travel time over the US-based Delta Airways by transiting via its hub in Doha. Delta code-shares the route with the India-based Jet Airways and the journey requires two plane transfers. Similarly, Etihads service from Manchester to Melbourne is more than three hours quicker than the Qantas and British Airways code-share flights. their flights require two plane changes instead of one for Etihad.

Gulf growth has been of huge benefit to the airports that serve the three carriers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha, with all of them almost doubling in traffic between 2004 and 2008. Dubai International Airport is now the fourth largest in the world by international traffic. By contrast, other airports in the global top 10 grew by much smaller margins over those years.

The profits generated by Emirates and Dubais other travel-related entities, such as the airport, duty free, ticketing and baggage handling companies, is of major importance to the emirates economy.

Dubai is the only place in the world that aviation pays 25 per cent of the entire finance budget, said Mohammed Ahli, the director general of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority. mr Ahli said the emirate was committed to continuing air travel improvement and an open skies policy of unrestricted access to Dubai airports by foreign airlines. To that end, the countrys second major facility, Al Maktoum International Airport, began operations last month

We opened the [Dubai International] airport that was considered to take us for the next 50 years in May 1971, but it took us only to 1976 when we asked Sheikh Rashid [bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the then ruler of Dubai] that we need another airport. We were in constant need of manpower, mr Ahli said.

Airports in the region are preparing even more capacity expansion in line with the anticipated growth of the three Gulf airlines, which are making multibillion-dollar gambles for the Airbus A380, the largest commercial airliner. Emirates has ordered 90 A380s, with Etihad to receive 10 and Qatar Airwayss five planes.

The aircraft offers the lowest operating costs per passenger, says Sir Maurice Flanagan, the founding chief executive at Emirates and currently its executive vice chairman. I cant understand why other airlines have been slow to pick up on the A380, he says.

Cheap Airlines Make Pilots Fly “Uncomfortably Low On Fuel”

Ugh, those selfish pilots can’t be bothered to help their airlines return to profitability. No, instead they’re whining to NASA that they’re being forced to fly “uncomfortably low on fuel” and that “safety for passengers and crews could be compromised.”

These flight simulator jockeys want more fuel, but that isn’t likely to happen anytime soon even with oil at $117 a barrel and crashing fast. the FAA finds the situation perfectly acceptable.

“We can’t dabble in the business policies or the personnel policies of an airline,” said FAA spokesman Les Dorr. He said there was no indication safety regulations were being violated.

The September 2005 safety alert was issued by NASA’s confidential Aviation Safety Reporting system, which allows air crews to report safety problems without fear their names will be disclosed.

With fuel prices now their biggest cost, airlines are aggressively enforcing new policies designed to reduce consumption.

Just look at the complaints flooding into NASA’s Aviation Safety Reporting system:

“I know our program manager is ranking captains on landing with less fuel. I don’t care to be ranked. I think this is a safety problem and I believe fuel is your friend,” the captain said. “Looking back, I would have liked more gas yesterday, and I was already carrying tanker fuel. If I wouldn’t have had this extra there would have been real problems.”

The captain of a Boeing 747 said he began to run low on fuel after meeting strong headwinds over the Atlantic en route to JFK in new York in February. after contacting his company to discuss a refueling stop, the captain said he was told by his operations manager that the flight actually needed less fuel than had been loaded on board and would have enough to get to JFK without stopping.

But by the time he reached JFK, his fuel was “far below my comfort zone and probably less than the minimum fuel required by the FARs (federal aviation regulations),” the captain said. “Our fuel situation had not become critical yet, but had we had any delay, I would have had to declare a fuel emergency.”

“I am not sure if the ‘flight plan’ as given to me by my company was a real flight plan, or if they were just telling me it was so that I would continue to JFK … thus saving them time and expense. … in the future, if such a situation presents itself again, I will divert to my initial destination regardless of what my company says I can do. the safety of my crew far outweighs any financial burden to the company.”

The captain of a Boeing 737 en route to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in February said he was forced to divert in bad weather to Palm Beach International Airport to refuel because less than the normal amount of fuel for the flight was loaded before takeoff.

“This was probably the new fuel-saving initiative by the company management to save money,” the captain said. “North-South operation is very unpredictable along the East Coast. I don’t think this is a place where we should skimp on fuel.”

The captain said he had a “lengthy discussion” with his company’s dispatcher “relaying my opinion on the reduced fuel load and my suggestion not to compromise fuel loads in and out of Florida.” But the captain said he received the same reduced amount on his next flight.

“So much for my professional input!” he said.

The airlines have made it clear that pilots who don’t stop whining and start flying will be fired.

American notified dispatchers July 7 that their records on fuel approved for flights would be monitored, and dispatchers not abiding by company guidelines could ultimately be fired.

Union officials responded that “it appears safety has become a second thought” for the company. American and US Airways blame the complaints on labor negotiations - both are in contract talks with the complaining unions.

Look people, it’s been 18 years since a plane crashed because it ran out of fuel. That means there isn’t a problem anymore. besides, 85 people survived.
